New England Center for Expository Preaching God's Words to God's People
Flash: ON

Pastoring in New England means Plowing Granite at times
Seminary Students,
Give the People the Word of God.
The Holy Spirit is fully capable of taking a clear proclaimation of
His Word and making it understood unto eternal life.

Are you in seminary and in need of preaching experience? - If you are an expository preaching warrior who desires to proclaim the full Word of God (in context) weekly, please consider spending one semester on the front lines of the battle for the United States, in New England.  You may find that God is "calling" you to one of the many pastor-less churches in the northeast US.  Hear what others say.

Who are they? - In New England that is a fair question.

Dr. Lig Duncan (pictured on the left) is the Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS.  Dr. Al Mohler's "day job" is the Presidency of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.    Joining them will be two men who are, where they were, 30+/- years ago - entering the ministry of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.  Their names are Jamie Owens and Brian Phillips.

Registration for NECEP 2012 is open - follow this link.

An audio of Dr. Mohler can be heard below.

The New England Center for Expository Preaching

God is the One who provided the vision in 2003 and He is the One Who continues to sustain and grows this ministry.  It exists to glorify Hib by simultaneously assisting pastors who may need a break, pastor-less churches who are in need of Biblically sound preaching, and the seminary students who need to test their expository preaching wings.  He is the one who has provides the interns, the housing, the opportunities to preach, the guest speakers, and all of the other needs that go into training these students to be pastors.  And thus, He is the one Who will get all the credit for that which He has done.

Wanted:  Men who can envision that that is not...

Logically, no seminary student "in his right mind" would consider pastoring a church in New England for more than a second or two.  Logically, it is not worth the time or the electricty to send an email inquiring about planting or revitalizing a church northeast of NYC.  New England is a theological wasteland that once was Biblically sound, but is no more.  It is a place that historians talk about where theeological confusion reigns.  Catholics are calling those who have been excommunicated by Trent "separated brethern", while many Protestants no longer know what they are "protesting".  In fact, logically no pastor should consider staying in New England, when the fields are much easier to till outside of the northeast US.

It makes no sense.  But of course, logically a God who choses to save His people by taking their punishment upon himself does not make sense either.  Jesus came and did that which He had "planned" to do from eternity past.  Now it is our turn.  We must do that which we are "called" to do because He has placed within our hearts a passion to proclaim His Gospel in a hostile land.  Those who come to New England do so not because it is not logical, but because it is commanded not of all men, but it is of them

God has called certain men to New England.  They know who they are, or He will make his calling of them known in His timing.

So, has He started to pull you towards serving Him on the front lines of the battle for the United States?  If so, contact NECEP.

At that point they will start envisioning that which no man can see through human eyes.  And at that point proclaiming the Gospel to a lost and dying world call New England will be the only logical thing to do in gratitude to a Sovereign Lord.
What is "Expository Preaching"

In brief "expository preaching" is simply re-stating that which God has said in a particular passage, in context so that it can be understood centuries after it was first proclaimed.  A more detailed discussion of "expository preaching" and the need for such in the 21st century is given by Mark Dever, Senior Pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, Washington, DC below.

What is "the Gospel"
Knowing how to "preach" is useless if one does not know, understand, believe, and be capable of communicating the message being proclaimed.  A child can stand behind a pulpit; but that does not mean that that child can proclaim the Gospel.  Please follow this link to a session delivered by Greg Gilbert at NECEP 2011 Pastors Conference for more details.

NECEP 2012 Expository Preaching Internship

For those who have seminary education but need practical experience in expository preaching should see NECEP - Plowing Granite .  Participating interns will preach weekly in New England while holding regular office hours (whatever that is) at a local church.  The New England Center for Expository Preaching Internship is an in depth program that requires full participation.  Attempting to hold down a job or take other courses (to include "J-Terms") during the internship will not be approved because the churches of New England need your full attention.

Why? - When one thinks about the theological condition of New England there are two possible perspectives - impossibility and opportunity.  Some pastors are giving up and leaving; but a very merciful Lord and Savior continues to send faithful men to reap His harvest in New England.  NECEP is seeking the next generation of men who desire to be expository preachers to New England.

If you are currently in seminary, you are willing to spend a semester (spring, summer, or fall) preaching expository sermons weekly in New England, and you are willing to consider the possibility that God might call you to proclaim His Word in New England upon graduation, you may be the person NECEP is looking for.
